I depicted the fruit spilling out of the bowl as a nod to the experience of going against conventional narratives and defying old stereotypes to make new memories with the information and lessons we have been given. "As Above, So Below," a solo exhibition by Morgan Lugo, explores the parallels between the Microcosm of the human mind vs. the Macrocosm of the universe. The structural similarities within varying forms of scientific phenomena continue to inspire Lugo's work. Morgan's interest in the physicality of memory expands to explore different ways information is shared and stored within various networks found in nature. This show highlights the similarities in structure and function of the neurological network within our brain, the underground mycorrhizal network of fungi, and the vast network of astronomical phenomena that make up the cosmos. Lugo uses the celestial, terrestrial, and metaphysical networks to pay homage to the "mind, body, and soul." This exhibit continues to emphasize the continual intersection of personal and communal memory's impact on shaping the perspective of individuals and the communities in which we live. "As Above, So Below" celebrates how seamlessly the repeated patterns found within nature reflect the repeated patterns found within humanity. The microcosm reflects the macrocosm, as the macrocosm reflects the microcosm.

“When the World Feels Weightless” is a new body of work that further expands on Morgan Lugo’s conceptual drivers of depicting fleeting and fragmented memories. Lugo prefers to use permanent and lasting materials, such as bronze, to speak to the deep-rooted effects that past experiences and memories have on the progression of personal growth. This work explores Lugo’s fascination with the similarities in structure of the human body and the universe on a macro vs. micro scale.

Conceptually, this body of work focuses on analyzing the similarities in the structural composition of the brain’s neurons and various astronomical phenomena, such as constellations. On a fundamental level, if only focusing on the visual structures of neurons and historical illustrations of constellations, these depictions appear fairly similar. Upon deeper study, the similarities between these two occurrences becomes apparent. Our personal memories are stored within our neurons in the same way our cultural stories - and ergo our personal memories - are stored within the ancient folklore told about the arrangement of the stars, in the form of constellations.

In this new body of work, Lugo uses inspiration from different cultures’ star lore to represent fragmented memories from her reality. These works depict various personal experiences, all held together by the gravity of similarities in emotive resonance. As a collective series, this visually communicates how memories create their own constellations within the mind of the individual and how our personal stories add to the cultural fabric within the neighborhoods we live - ultimately, enriching and deepening the cultural context and stories of our communities. As we all experience the cumulative effect of memory on a macro vs. micro scale everyday, this allows the viewer to become a part of that very narrative - and the story goes on.

Forever Becoming is a sculpture that draws inspiration from the indigenous star lore of the Barasana Tribe from the Amazon rainforest. The milky way is referred to as the “path of souls.”. In this specific part of the world the milky way is one of the most vibrant things seen across the night sky- a glittering band connecting the east and west; touching the earth on both horizons. The “path of souls” is the eternal loop of life and the spirit. The purpose is to give the souls of our loved ones safe travels down from the heavens to earth and from the earth into the heavens.

Our personal life and spirit are shifting and growing everyday. Slowly, as life goes and circumstances change, we are forced to adapt into a new version of ourselves informed from the eternal loop of our personal evolution and exposure to new information. A beautiful part of experiencing the seasons of our lives is seeing our current self within the past versions of ourselves. This sculpture is speaking to the experience of growing up and growing out of the past parts of who we were that are no longer relevant. These past versions of us are vital stepping stones in the journey of self exploration. This interpretation of the Barasana star lore shows the “path of the soul” we are all consistently journeying; forever becoming ourselves.

"Trails" is a sculpture that is in conversation with the idea of "Dark Cloud Constellations, which are stories that mainly originate from aboriginal Australia and other indigenous cultures in the southern hemisphere (such as South America). These are stories about the shapes or "figures" seen within the "dark spots" or negative space between clusters of stars. Many of these tales depict the struggle between the light and dark within oneself and the transformation which follows these realizations or overcoming personal "demons."

This sculpture was inspired by the summers I spent working at a sculpture park located in a beautiful forest. Every day the walk back to the cabin from the shop was my favorite part of the day. This walk was always the most beautiful and surreal experience because I was always hiking through the woods at dusk when the fireflies started illuminating the forest even though it was still light out. It is quite a surreal experience as the little trails of light lead you down many different paths as the world gets quieter, lonelier, and more muted around you. This experience feels counterintuitive in that it doesn't quite make sense that fireflies are already out in the daylight, but almost as if they are there to guide you and let you know you're not alone as the world descends into night. This tangible juxtaposition of light and dark in the forest always reminds me of the parallel of battling negative thoughts within oneself. There is always a glimmer of hope somewhere if you keep moving and don't let yourself be scared of the "dark." Also, the longer you stay outside as the light descends into darkness, the more effortlessly your eyes adjust to the night. Just as the longer, we have the time to sit with ourselves without the fear of the impending "night" or "darkness" within ourselves, the easier it can be to follow the trails of light through our dark clouds into the "day."

The Orion constellation is one of the most recognizable constellations in the night sky because of its location on the celestial equator, it can be seen from anywhere in the world. Therefore, this constellation has many different myths, stories, and meanings throughout the multitude of various ancient cultures. One main theme that connects many of these mythological stories is food. Family Recipe draws its inspiration directly from this lore. Ancient cultures tracked the movement and placement of the Orion constellation over the night sky and what quadrant of the celestial equator it was currently on so they could have visual markers of important times within the agricultural calendar. Chinese cosmology Orion’s brightest star is the destination of the emperor's son Ebo. He traveled to the cosmos so he could catch a blade of grass on fire and bring it down to earth, equipping his kingdom with fire and improving his people’s way of life.

This wall installation speaks to the making, growing, and sharing of food as a vehicle to experience and exchange different cultural influences. Many people learn the most about themselves, family, friends, or even strangers by sharing stories over a warm meal. Whether it is learning your grandma's special recipe, having a potluck with friends, or going on a date for the first time, food is consistently the epicenter of life. We share such a large part of the human experience and interpersonal connection through an act that is central to our continued existence. The small act of sharing the different ways meat is cooked throughout the world, or what spices are common to specific regions, allows us to not only access an expansive network of shared memory, but to be able to contribute to it.

This sculptural installation consists of different “star clusters'' all being pulled to and gravitating around the brightest star in the overall “constellation”. Each of the different stars in this overall constellation reference the cultures that I am directly tied to and influenced by. As I am half Sicilian and half Puerto Rican, the larger pieces are influenced by typical foods and ingredients I eat with these sides of my family. My siblings and I are the first generation of our family raised in the South. The medium sized constellation is a representation of food and ingredients significant to my experience with southern cuisine. The plate is the “brightest and strongest star” in my constellation, a reference to Orion's Belt as the brightest and most iconic element of the Orion constellation, often being the part of the system people can identify first. The mirror polished plate beckons the viewer to reflect on their own cosmology of family recipes. The two smallest constellations are dessert and fruit. I wanted to include some universal categories of foods and ingredients that are spread throughout many different cultures. As someone from a multicultural heritage, I hold a lot of value in the way they intertwine and inspire each other; and believe it is important to visually represent the experiences of the large community of people from a multiethnic experience and home. Not having to choose “I am this” or “I am that” but we are all of our ancestors embodied in one person with our own unique flavor. When something as simple as the avocado can hold so much weight within culture, memory, and history at large- why can’t we?

The medium sized constellation is a representation of food and ingredients significant to my experience with southern cuisine. The mirror polished plate beckons the viewer to reflect on their own cosmology of family recipes. The two smallest constellations are dessert and fruit. I wanted to include some universal categories of foods and ingredients that are spread throughout many different cultures. As someone from a multicultural heritage, I hold a lot of value in the way they intertwine and inspire each other; and believe it is important to visually represent the experiences of the large community of people from a multiethnic experience and home. Not having to choose “I am this” or “I am that” but we are all of our ancestors embodied in one person with our own unique flavor. When something as simple as the avocado can hold so much weight within culture, memory, and history at large- why can’t we?

We share such a large part of the human experience and interpersonal connection through an act that is central to our continued existence. The small act of sharing the different ways meat is cooked throughout the world, or what spices are common to specific regions, allows us to not only access an expansive network of shared memory, but to be able to contribute to it.

"Trails" is a sculpture that is in conversation with the idea of "Dark Cloud Constellations, which are stories that mainly originate from aboriginal Australia and other indigenous cultures in the southern hemisphere (such as South America). These are stories about the shapes or "figures" seen within the "dark spots" or negative space between clusters of stars. Many of these tales depict the struggle between the light and dark within oneself and the transformation which follows these realizations or overcoming personal "demons."

This sculpture was inspired by the summers I spent working at a sculpture park located in a beautiful forest. Every day the walk back to the cabin from the shop was my favorite part of the day. This walk was always the most beautiful and surreal experience because I was always hiking through the woods at dusk when the fireflies started illuminating the forest even though it was still light out. It is quite a surreal experience as the little trails of light lead you down many different paths as the world gets quieter, lonelier, and more muted around you. This experience feels counterintuitive in that it doesn't quite make sense that fireflies are already out in the daylight, but almost as if they are there to guide you and let you know you're not alone as the world descends into night. This tangible juxtaposition of light and dark in the forest always reminds me of the parallel of battling negative thoughts within oneself. There is always a glimmer of hope somewhere if you keep moving and don't let yourself be scared of the "dark." Also, the longer you stay outside as the light descends into darkness, the more effortlessly your eyes adjust to the night. Just as the longer, we have the time to sit with ourselves without the fear of the impending "night" or "darkness" within ourselves, the easier it can be to follow the trails of light through our dark clouds into the "day."

"Finding My Way Home" is inspired by how indigenous seafarers used the stars as a three-dimensional compass to navigate the Caribbean and Oceania. These ancient sky watchers would memorize and follow "Havienga," or linear star paths. These constellations run perpendicular to the horizon and are associated with a specific island at the path's endpoint. The knowledge of navigating the seas using the memorization of these linear star paths was passed down for generations by their ancestors through oral tradition.

This sculpture is composed of a palm leaf and an oyster from St. George Island, Florida; my family has been visiting this island my entire life, so it will forever feel like home. I chose to use a palm leaf from our front yard to reflect the Havengia or "linear star paths" that the seafarers would follow for safe travels. Additionally, I sculpted a freshly caught oyster from the bay to symbolize a ship navigating the open water. I was inspired to combine my past and present experiences of the ancient knowledge of navigation from my Taíno ancestors of Puerto Rico and the imagery of my family's home in Florida. I find these specific star patterns particularly fascinating because these linear constellations are significantly different or completely non-existent depending on where you are on the Earth and how far you are from the equator. Just like how so much of life is about personal perspective, personal experience, and the locations we live. As individuals, we experience many elements of life that are out of our control but still require us to find a way to navigate. So, it is only natural that we rely on the lessons bestowed upon us from our family, friends, and ancestors to navigate the unknown waters of life so we can always "find our way home."

“Future Memories” focuses on the experience of introspective consciousness and the fleeting moments of a thought. A big inspiration for this sculptural series was simply the process of thinking. Getting lost in the contemplation of the unexplained anomaly of consciousness. All humans share the experience of consciousness. Although, it is something philosophers can not accurately describe, nor scientists can not correctly explain. Isn’t it hard to wrap your mind around the fact that this experience humans know so throughly is simply considered unexplainable? It is vastly illusive and tantalizing to imagine why and how we got to this elevated stage of self. These ideas are what got me thinking. Thinking about thinking, thinking about what the physical manifestation of thought would look like. “Future Memories” is a series that represents the movement of these thoughts from something illusive and unexplainable into an physical experience. Moreover, an experience that is shared by an audience. In which these sculptures turn from an experience, into a thought, into a memory for the viewers. My goal is to make the intangible experience of introspective conscious thought a mutual and tangible experience for a group of people to share. In a time where differences can seem so insurmountable, it is vital to create moments of mutual experience.

“Future Memories” addresses the fleeting moments of conscious thought. This sculpture is composed of fabricated aluminum prisms that are intertwined with an amorphic cast aluminum form. These fabricated aluminum prisms are representative of molecular structures. Specifically, the molecular structures that physically compose and control unconscious brain function. (i.e. breathing, sleeping, blinking, etc.) In between the fabricated prisms there is a flowing gestural form made from cast aluminum. This fabric form alludes to the unexplainable conscious progression of ideas that float through the headspace. The forms are gestural to show that momentum and friction theses intangible thoughts create. The cast aluminum form is adorned with a multitude of interwoven faces. The repetitive nature of these faces alludes to the progression of a singular moment, memory, or experience winding through the mind. A single thought dancing its way into a singular memory

Extension on my “Finding Balance” series.

Finding Balance is a depiction of the fragile relationship that exists between trying to find balance and the many factors of life. The composition of this sculpture is representative of the personal struggle we all face with balancing our lives. Materials and motifs simply represent the personal self and the external experience; both balancing delicately on a single point. In this case, the point of the triangular pyramid is to represent the present moment in time. As we make our way through life, there is a unique and tactile execution taken by each individual in the way one chooses to balance the internal experience with the external factors we encounter. This balancing point is represented by the small-cast bronze section of the hip bone which connects the two worlds of existence and celebrates the balance of the individual.

The conceptual drivers for “Reflection” revolve around the dissection and exploration of the mental landscape. Using each element of an individuals ever-changing headspace to sculpt the bust of a fictional woman. Transforming her to physically represent ambiguous thought and potent experience. The head is adorned with a multitude of intertwining tendrils, layered circular forms, and emotive faces. Each twist, turn and detail represent the intertwined experience of life. Forming the human experience by the expanding on layers of memories, familiar faces, and acquired knowledge. The front of the piece represents the calm and collected face one presents to the world. As the piece transitions to the back it uncovers the doubts, fears and anxieties that are present in the subconscious. Using these realizations, collections and manifestations, I was able to deconstruct and reconstruct a surrealistic version of the illusive mental landscape.

In between the fabricated steel prisms there is a flowing gestural fabric form made from Hydrocal plaster and strips of old T- shirts. This fabric form alludes to the unexplainable conscious progression of ideas that float through the headspace. The fabric is gestural to show that momentum and friction theses intangible thoughts create. The fabric form is adorned with a multitude of interwoven female faces. The repetitive nature of these faces alludes to the progression of a singular moment, memory, or experience winding through the mind. A single thought dancing its way into a singular memory

In January of 2014, I fell during an ice storm, resulting in a serious concussion. This sculpture is inspired by that experience, symbolizing the fleeting moment right before I lost consciousness and what the world looked like to me. Although this may seem like a heavy topic to make a sculpture on, this piece was made as a celebration of my health rather then a mourning over my injury. After almost a year of healing, I was beyond thrilled when I started feeling like myself again. It’s ironic because this was a moment in my life that I will never forget, if only I could remember. So, I decided to make a piece of art that solidified this important yet hazy moment. I chose to work in permanent materials to be an everlasting reminder of the monumental lessons I learned while overcoming such a hard year of my life.

Atlantis deals with the themes of classical antiquity, loss of identity and growth from the past. References to classical antiquity and past artists' relentless pursuit of creating the perfect form. The value of the perfect form has been mutated and forgotten over time as modern art has progressed. Along with the distortion of the perfect form, the nautical growth shows what happens when something is lost or forgotten. However forgotten they are, these creatures reference growth and the steady progression of past ideals while simultaneously prospering new life. The multi-faces all melted together speak to the loss of identity when in pursuit of the perfect form.

Future memories is a piece that is using similar motifs that have been seen throughout my work, such as: industry vs. nature, life vs. death, taking over vs. taking back. Objects that reference death and mortality are used to create an almost apocalyptic composition of growth and reflection. A cast iron cow spine is intertwining and weaving its way around a burnt tree as it seemingly begins the process of regrowth, replenishing the charred remnants of nature, maintaining and growing upon the backbone of life and existence. The mirror on the bottom of the sculpture is reminiscent of a reflecting pool, where the viewer can become part of the sculptural experience. The mirror allows the viewers to plainly see themselves in this sculptural interaction and allows them to see exactly where we all stand in this world—somewhere in between growth and decay; somewhere between life and death. This allows the viewer to understand that this cycle will continue and the future things to come are strangely memories we already have. If we do not change the actions we make today the world will continue to become more bleak, charred and industrialized. The same thing can be said about the internal experience of the individual; if we don’t take the chance to step back and reflect on our decisions and where we stand in life, then we risk the chance of a slow decay of the self.

This piece is a representation of the fleeting moment right before we fall asleep. The moment where the line between reality and surreality is blurred. When we are still conscious enough to understand our web of thought but the haziness of the dreamscape is encroaching on the solidity of our reality. The moment where your thoughts seem weightless. When complex problems seem to conspire and inspire simple solutions. When, although a fluid stream of thought is invaded by a cloudy surreal fog, you seem to find more of yourself within the dance between the two than when reality outweighs surreality, or vice versa. It is this moment that is undeniably one of my biggest creative influences and this is the moment that has inspired this piece and many others I have made.

There is a strong relationship between urban development and natural growth. It seems as though when one side flourishes the other side depletes. This relationship is constantly in a state of flux, forever changing. The relationship between nature and mankind is a never-ending battle of taking over vs. taking back. Man clears huge plots of land for the next big shopping mall, office building, new school, etc.—killing and tearing down the natural vegetation of the land. Although this is horribly tragic for mother nature, this urban development is extremely beneficial to mankind, offering new opportunities for people in places that didn't exist before. But, as time slowly creeps in on buildings, they become outdated, unkempt and forgotten. This is when mother nature comes in and takes back what was once hers. New plants have a chance to prosper, new animals have a home, flowers are blooming giving new pollen to bees. The natural elements will continue to flourish until the next time a new plan for an urban building or community is set in motion and then the entire cycle starts again: Destruction of one way of living for the growth of the other. This piece is meant to mix inspiration from both natural and industrial elements to showcase the ever-changing pendulum of urban development and natural life.

Mother Nature is a depiction of the delicate balance between the elements of nature and the fragile ecosystem of existence. As the flowing fabric climbs up to the delicate hand it shows the whimsical yet tumultuous energy of the natural elements. The gentle hand is reaching towards the floating terrarium. This represents the nurturing nature of the elements on our planet, yet shows the powerful forces that stew below the surface.

Part of my Finding Balance Series. Finding Balance is a depiction of the fragile relationship that exists between trying to find balance and the many factors of life. The composition of this sculpture is representative of the personal struggle we all face with balancing our lives. Materials and motifs simply represent the personal self and the external experience; both balancing delicately on a single point. In this case, the point of the triangular pyramid is to represent the present moment in time. As we make our way through life, there is a unique and tactile execution taken by each individual in the way one chooses to balance the internal experience with the external factors we encounter. This balancing point is represented by the small-cast bronze section of the hip bone which connects the two worlds of existence and celebrates the balance of the individual.

For me this piece represents the struggle between what the head wants and what the heart wants, as one struggles to find the equilibrium between the two conflicting parts of the self. The wood represents the heart, the center of the body. Whereas the concrete hands represent the head, or more specifically, thoughts constantly reaching for new solutions. It is hard to tell which hands are growing and which are decaying, just like in life when the growth and death of ideas are in a constant state of flux intertwined with each other, thus creating the web of existence. This piece uses the internal struggle between what we feel is right and what we know we should do to parallel the experience of witnessing the geographical conflict between the growth of industry versus the growth of nature; relating and comparing the internal experience of the head versus the heart with the external experience of industry versus nature.

This piece uses integration of materials to portray the continuance of the cycle of life. The idea behind this piece stemmed from the found materials I used to create it. The spine and the piece of wood were both found in similar situations, on the ground in a natural environment. It made me realize how similar the life cycles of mammals and plants are. At the end of the day everything ends up in a similar situation, decaying and becoming part of the soil. The beauty behind this situation is that every form life, regardless if it is plant, animal or human, ends up continuing the cycle of life. Growing from what is now deceased, passing the gift of life on continuously for generations. Also, It struck me that although very different in material, the modulating knobs on the wood seem to similarly parallel the vertebrae on the spine. Thus, solidifying the relationship between how similar all life ends up being. I specifically used bronze, a typical statue material that is known for standing up to the elements, and integrated it with the natural materials. Whereas some of these will decay, the bronze spine will stay forever, reminding us about the continuance of life and how thankful we should be for life in all forms.

This piece references the parasitic relationship between fungus and trees to parallel the parasitic relationship between big cities and the environment. Cities use the environment for their sole life source but doing nothing positive in return for the ecosystem of the planet. The human race as a whole has a parasitic relationship with the planet we live on. We are depleting the natural resources given to us and polluting the landscape. Things like this happen because it is absolutely vital to our survival as a species, we can not exist without the environment and all of its many vices. Just like the relationship between parasitic fungus and the tree, there is a one way relationship that diminishes and depletes the life of the tree. Ultimately in the end, the tree decays all together until there is nothing left for the fungus to feed on. Which it seems that this might be the case for us if we do not be careful. I chose to use steel to fabricate the fungus to parallel the materials used for the infrastructure of big cities.

As an artist, I gather inspiration from the things I experience on a daily basis. As a resident of Atlanta, I am infinitely fascinated with the relationship between the urban community and nature. This idea is the fuel behind much of my work. Natural growth and urban development are two forces that are continually in flux, in a complex and paradoxical relationship that is simultaneously productive and parasitic. Industry takes over, nature takes back and vice versa. This piece was made with this idea in mind, using industrial materials to preserve and add onto this tree. In doing so the tree has been damaged, torn into and cut up in order to create a more “stable” environment for the tree to exist in. Paralleling this process with the ideas behind the process of building a new city and the consequences it has on nature.

Animal Instincts is a watercolor triptych depicting my mental state during finals week; frustrated, overwhelmed and brain-dead. The three paintings flow into each other just as the emotional state of finals all blends together. Although I was overwhelmed, I had a great deal of fun breaking from my typical mediums by creating a few light hearted paintings.

This chandelier is a good representation of my early work as a sculptor. Being the first piece of metal fabrication I had ever done, this piece was the inspiration for me to take the full plunge into metal working. All of the gears in the sculpture were salvaged from old Volkswagen Busses and Chevrolets. This gave me the chance to bring a new life to things that would otherwise have been discarded. The gears represent logical reasoning and the circles represent creative thought and imagination. As the two opposing forces work together they simultaneously manifest the sparks of creation and new ideas to shed light onto old problems.

This piece symbolizes a point in my life where a lot changed for me. As I got my heart broken for the first time, I went through what most people have gone through: serious pain, confusion and self-loathing. I consciously decided to use my negative emotions in a positive way to build me up rather then to break me down. This piece symbolizes the growth of a new me from the death of an old part of my life. Although this piece may seem gruesome, it is much more about a story of growth, reincarnation and new life. These emotions are fossilized in the symbols of what was. This is to remind me of where I have been and to inspire me to get to where I want to be. Using the skull of a deer and its antlers, that were given to me from the very same person that hurt me, I gave them new life. I gave these bones a second chance to grow, using them as the starting point of a new journey. I chose to make them look like amber to emphasize the importance of these memories, to treasure these memories like a gem of the past. Growing from the pain like a tree using each emotion and new branch as an opportunity to change my perspective on the seemingly bad situation. To cherish and praise this moment as if it were a fossil of my past, because this moment was undeniably one that gave me a new life.

While studying in Florence, Italy, I was infatuated by the calm atmosphere and relaxed culture. I decided to use the calming energy of my new home to create a peaceful place within the city. A place where people could further their meditations, thoughts, readings or just enjoy thinking about nothing. Simultaneously, the art and the viewer are connected through nature, as the mandalas sway in the wind similar to the way hair flows in a light breeze. I used hand-made mandalas and eyeballs to create a calming place to practice meditation and a place to prosper eye opening discoveries.

Sweet dreams is a piece inspired by a series of dreams I had. Every single night for a month I had a dream that I died, I physically saw myself die and the dreams would go on as if nothing ever happened. At first, I was terrified and confused at these seemingly endless nightmares. After a lot of research on dream analysis, I came to the conclusion that dying in your dreams symbolizes a new birth in your waking life. With this new perception, I began to look at these terrifying dreams in a new light. This piece is whimsical, bright and fluffy from a far, but things change when you take a closer look. Upon a closer examination you can see the imbedded and conflicted torment that was undoubtedly present in my subconscious mind during this period of time.

This piece was a rotating installation around Atlanta, Georgia. With the intention to break down the walls of the studio and bring artwork that is typically in a highbrow gallery to the streets. I wanted to integrate stereotypically highbrow and lowbrow art work, showing that there really is not much of a difference between the two by introducing three dimensional artwork to people who would normally never get the chance to experience it. I would bring the sculpture to different places in Atlanta and leave it there for an extended period of time.

Motions of mutation is my first work incorporating video installation by using a sculptural wall piece to warp the perspective of a video, creating new images by mutating those that already exist. I have used clips from the movie “Microcosms” to show the beautiful and forgotten world of insects. Showing the different way these living creatures are profoundly effected by situations such as rain, finding food or mating. Changing the scale in which we see these insects live their lives completely changes the emotional relationship we have with them. In addition to that, changing the way the images are projected engages the viewer to question what is playing on the screen and how they personally relate to these intimate moments of the insect. Warping video projection using a sculptural wall piece was a unique way I found to parallel different worlds and combine different perspectives.

The ocean is a mysterious place filled with a multitude of hidden treasures and surprises. Using this as an inspiration, I created a functional sculptural display for hand built pottery. It is meant to be functional when desired, and when not in use, doubles as a sculpture for the unknowing viewer.

As we live our lives, it should not be in front of a mirror as it should not be solely guided by our physical appearance. Life is truly and fully experiencing the people and the moments that shape us as a person. It is these moments and special connections that are a direct reflection of who we are and who we will become. In creating this piece, these thoughts of the self and who we really are were a vital part of my inspiration. I chose to use a photo-collage of people, moments and memories that have shaped and changed me into the person I am today. I feel this reflects who I am in a much more potent and powerful way than my physical appearance will ever show about me. These moments, whether they remind me of good or bad times, were vital to my self-realization. Using the three dimensional features of the hair physically connects the space shared by the present viewer and the painting. This connects the moment and person I was during this painting with the present space and the present connections that are being experienced now.
